The SCT test (short span compression test) method is specifically designed to evaluate the compressive strength over a minimal span—typically 0.7 mm—offering higher accuracy compared to traditional ring crush or edge crush tests. This method is ideal for testing materials with grammage between 100 g/m² and 400 g/m².
In the SCT-01, a 15 mm wide specimen is clamped between two precision-aligned jaws. As the jaws compress the sample, the instrument captures the maximum force before failure. The resulting value reflects the compressive strength in Newtons or other units such as KN/m or N.m/g, ensuring versatility in data presentation.
This test is highly sensitive to fiber bonding and material uniformity, making it a valuable indicator of paperboard quality—critical for packaging manufacturers aiming for ISO or TAPPI compliance.
