ATI Corporation GLT-01 Gross Leak Tester

Gross Leak Tester is a destructive test method used to detect gross leaks in packaging through internal pressurization. Known also as the bubble test, submersion test, underwater immersion tester, and dunking test, it is primarily applied to pouch and sterile packaging, among other packaging types. The test follows the procedure outlined in ASTM F2096, which details the process of detecting gross leaks in both porous and non-permeable packaging materials via internal pressurization.

The gross leak tester operates by creating a pressure difference between the inside and outside of the inspected sample, which is immersed in a water medium. If there is a leak, high-pressure gas will move to the low-pressure area through the leak point, causing bubbles to form in the water. The formation of these bubbles on the low-pressure side indicates the presence of a leak, thereby facilitating detection.
